Google Pixel 6a vs 7 vs 7 Pro: Everything they have in common

Below, we analyse the elements that our three protagonists share:

Maximum battery life

Although the three smartphones do not have the same battery, as the capacity increases progressively from the 6a to the 7 Pro, in all three cases the company announces an autonomy of more than 24 hours.

It can even reach 72 hours in extreme battery saving mode. However, only the 7 and 7 Pro models have fast wireless charging (the 6a has fast charging, but not in wireless format).

IP resistance rating

To be fair, they don’t have exactly the same level of protection, but the difference is practically imperceptible. In fact, the Google Pixel 6a has an IP67 rating, while the 7 series models have an IP68 rating. In practice, therefore, the protection against water and dust is the same.

HDR format support

Another similarity between the three smartphones is that they support the HDR format, so the brightness level of the images is the same in all three cases. Also, in HDR format, all three have a brightness of up to 1000 nits.

Noise cancellation and microphones

As far as noise cancellation is concerned, it is a feature present in all three devices. Still, it’s worth noting that the Google Pixel 6a has two microphones, one less than the 7 and 7 Pro models. In practice, however, the difference is not noticeable.

Unlocking method

Security is one of the great strengths of Google’s devices, and its own smartphones are no exception. All three models have the Titan M2 chip, so they share the same security core. In addition, they incorporate a fingerprint unlocking system. Only the 7 and 7 Pro models add a facial recognition system to this system.

Google Pixel 6a vs 7 vs 7 Pro: How do they differ?

Now that you know what the similarities between the smartphones are, we’ll now highlight the main differences between the three protagonists of our review:

Processor evolution

The Google Pixel 6a incorporates the Google Tensor processor, with which the company started its range of smartphones. This processor is characterised by its power, but Google has decided to improve it in the 7 and 7 Pro models, which have the Google Tensor 2.

The main difference lies in artificial intelligence and the incorporation of more efficient cores.

As for the operating system, the 6a is designed based on Android 12, while the 7 and 7 Pro models have Android 13, as they are newer.

Three screen sizes

The first thing we look at in a smartphone is the size of its screen, which is the main element of the phone. And, in this case, it is one of the most obvious differentiating aspects. The Google Pixel 6a has a 6.1-inch display with a Full HD+ resolution of up to 60 Hz.

The Google Pixel 7 increases the size slightly to 6.3 inches, with a Full HD+ display up to 90 Hz. Finally, the Pixel 7 Pro is the one with the largest screen, at 6.7 inches, OLED QHD+ and LTPO fluid display, up to 120 Hz.

How many cameras do they have?

Another must-have in smartphones is the rear camera or cameras, and in this case, the difference lies in the Google Pixel 7 Pro.

This smartphone has a triple rear camera, while its two smaller siblings have a dual camera. All three models have wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lenses. However, the 7 Pro adds a telephoto lens.

In addition, there are also differences between the cameras they share. For example, the wide-angle camera is 12.2 MP in the case of the Google Pixel 6a, while it reaches 50 MP in the 7 and 7 Pro models. Likewise, the field of view is larger on the 7 series smartphones.

The front-facing camera also changes. The Pixel 6a has an 8 MP camera, which goes up to 10.8 MP on the Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro.

Which storage capacity do you prefer?

Another difference between the three protagonists of our review is the memory they have for storing documents. The Google Pixel 6a has 6 GB of RAM, which rises to 8 GB in the Google Pixel 7 and up to 12 GB in the 7 Pro.

Value for money

As you have seen, the differences between the three models are more than noticeable. It is therefore not surprising that this variation carries over to the price. The Google Pixel 6a can be purchased for between 400 and 450 euros. The Google Pixel 7 is available from €600, while the Pixel 7 Pro goes up to over €850.

Google Pixel 6a vs 7 vs 7 Pro: Which smartphone is better?

Having compared the differences and similarities between the three smartphones, it’s time to decide which one to choose. And, as they say, there’s virtue in the middle. Choosing your perfect smartphone will depend on your needs and limitations, but we think the Google Pixel 7 is a good alternative.

It has great similarities to the 7 Pro, but its price is significantly lower. On the other hand, it improves on important aspects of the 6a, such as processor performance, storage capacity, screen size and operating system.

So if you don’t want to spend a lot of money and are looking for a smartphone that is efficient, with Google’s warranty and offers high performance, the Pixel 7 is a great option. If you want to enjoy the most complete features, such as a larger screen size or a triple camera system, you can choose the Google Pixel 7 Pro, but its price rises considerably.

In short, think about what your limitations and needs are and it will be easier for you to choose the perfect model for you.
