Philips 2200 vs 3200: What are the main differences?
Here are the most important differences:
Models in each series
As the name suggests, the Philips 2200 and 3200 are series, and within each series there are several models:
- Philips 2200: Philips mid-range series consists of 5 models. These are Philips EP2230/10, EP2235/40, EP2231/40, EP2224/10 and EP2220/10.
- Philips 3200: in this case, there are only two coffee machines, the EP3246/70 and the Philips EP3221/40. The only difference between them is that only the first one has the LatteGo system.
Type of coffee to be brewed
As a consequence of the difference in the milk system, the variety of beverages offered by each machine is different. The Philips 2200 offers a choice of espresso, regular coffee and hot water. The Philips 3200, on the other hand, offers a choice of cappuccino, macchiato and American coffee.
Milk frothing mechanism
Both coffee machines we are analysing have an integrated system for making coffees such as cappuccino or caffe latte, i.e. a milk system. However, it is not the same.
The Philips 2200 is equipped with a classic milk frother, while the Philips 3200 has the LatteGo system. The main difference is that the LatteGo can be quickly washed, has no tubes and has a high-speed frothing chamber.
It is worth noting that some models in the 2200 series do have LatteGo, although in this comparison we have focused on those without this functionality.
Selling price
Given that, although not many, there are some differences between the two superautomatic coffee machines, it stands to reason that the price will differ. Although, to be fair, the difference is not very high, except in case you get a cheap deal on one of the two that increases it.

These are the features shared by the two coffee machines in our review, which is not unusual for the same brand:
Thermal and grind control
Another aspect to look out for is the coffee strength and grind setting. In the case of this comparison, it is the same for both coffee machines, as they have three levels of intensity and 12 for the grinder. They also offer a total of 3 temperature settings.
Coffee bean or ground coffee container
If you already have ground coffee, you should know that you can also incorporate it in either of the two coffee machines. The grinder is ceramic in both cases, and the coffee grounds container can hold up to 10 cups of espresso.
Volume of the tanks
One of the features shared by the two coffee machines is the volume of the water tank, which in both cases is 1.8 litres. The same applies to the bean compartment, which is 275 grams in both models. There is therefore no difference in the volume of the two tanks.
Pump pressure
Another important factor when evaluating different coffee machines is the pump pressure. This determines, for example, the intensity of the coffee, the crema or even the aroma. In both cases, the pressure is 15 bar, a level that is common for this type of coffee machine.
Digital touch screen
In both models you will find a touch screen where you can choose the type of coffee you want, the quantity of water and coffee, the cleaning mode of the coffee machine, etc.
Philips 2200 vs 3200: Which coffee machine is better?
Either coffee machine is perfect for you if you are looking for a powerful, efficient and versatile model. In reality, the differences between them are difficult to perceive, especially if you choose one of the more complete models of the 2200 series, whose features are very similar to those of the 3200 series.
Therefore, the decision of which coffee machine to choose depends mainly on the type of coffee you usually drink. In other words, if you like more elaborate coffees or coffees in which milk plays a more important role, our recommendation is to choose the Philips 3200, as it offers a greater variety of beverages in this respect.
On the other hand, if you prefer to drink espresso or black coffee, without any additives, the Philips 2200 is an equally functional and more economical alternative. However, either one has the brand’s own quality guarantee, so the choice will be a good one in both cases.
