Amazon’s smart TVs have made remarkable progress in recent years, despite competing in a saturated market, especially with Samsung. However, has the smiling company managed to take them on with its Smart TVs? To answer this question, we analyse three of the most popular models: Amazon Fire TV 2 Series vs 4 Series vs Omni Series.

Amazon Fire TV 2 Series vs 4 Series vs Omni Series: We analyse the differences
In this section, we start by highlighting the most relevant distinguishing features between the three smart TVs:
Screen: sizes and technology
One of the first things it’s important to know is that the two Smart TVs come in different screen sizes, although they are not the same. In the case of the Amazon Fire TV 2 series, you can choose between a 32-inch or 40-inch screen. On the other hand, the 4 series Smart TV is available in three sizes: 43-inch, 50-inch and 55-inch. As for the Omni Series, it is available in 43, 50, 55, 65 and 75 inches.
Therefore, the size of the space where you plan to place your Smart TV can influence the decision of which one to buy. While the Amazon Fire TV 2 Series is suitable for smaller spaces, the Amazon Fire TV 4 Series and Omni Series are designed for larger rooms.
Importantly, in all three cases you can opt to take out a 4-year protection plan, although the price will increase considerably.
Screen resolution
Now we turn to the resolution, which is different on the Fire TV 2 Series compared to the other two. The 2 Series has a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. On the other hand, the Fire TV 4 Series and the Omni Series offer a 4K UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels.
Integrated Zoom
While most of the smart features are similar, the Fire TV Omni Series stands out from the other two by incorporating some very interesting features. For example, it offers the ability to make video calls via Zoom with voice control, allowing you to take advantage of a larger screen if you want to communicate with family and friends via video calls.
High Dynamic Range format
Another difference is in the High Dynamic Range (HDR) formats supported. While the Series 2 and 4 are more basic, supporting only HDR10 and HLG, the Amazon Fire TV Omni Series supports HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision, though only on the 65-inch and 75-inch versions.
HDMI ports and connectivity type
Importantly, all three Smart TVs support Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity. However, there are some differences in the number of HDMI ports. The Fire TV 4 Series and Omni Series have 3 HDMI 2.0 ports + 1 HDMI eARC 2.1 port, while the Fire TV 2 Series reduces the number to 2 HDMI 1.4 ports + 1 HDMI ARC port.
Amazon Fire TV 2 Series vs 4 Series vs Omni Series: What do they have in common?
You’ve already seen the differences, and, now, we continue with the shared aspects between them:
Amazon’s operating system
All three smart TVs are powered by the Fire TV OS, developed by Amazon, so the performance in all three cases is quite similar. In fact, they also have the same compatibility in terms of audio power, even though the resolution varies.
Alexa integration
As expected, the Smart TVs developed by Amazon feature integration with the company’s virtual assistant, Alexa. This means that you can voice request the content you want via Alexa.
However, it’s important to note that only the Fire TV Omni Series is hands-free via Alexa. This means that only this Smart TV can be integrated into your home automation system and be controlled directly by voice without the need to turn it on.
Smart features
In addition to Alexa integration, all three Amazon Smart TVs have more features in common. For example, there is VoiceView, a feature designed to allow visually impaired people to consume content. However, the availability and variety of subtitles may vary by content and country, as they are not uniform across the board.
Amazon Fire TV 2 Series vs 4 Series vs Omni Series: Which smart TV should we choose?
After analysing the three Amazon smart TVs, we can see that the differences between them are quite minimal. In particular, the similarities are most evident between the Fire TV 4 Series and the Omni Series. In general, the Fire TV 2 Series is designed for smaller spaces, as it is available in smaller screen sizes. On the other hand, the Omni Series offers a wider range of sizes, which can be a significant advantage.
In terms of resolution, the Fire TV 2 Series has a lower resolution due to its smaller size. On the other hand, both the Fire TV 4 Series and the Omni Series offer 4K resolution, which is considered important nowadays. In terms of features, all three integrate Alexa and have HDMI ports, but again, the Omni Series has slight advantages over its competitors.
All in all, all three models offer pretty good value for money, although if I had to choose one, it would be the Fire TV Omni Series. However, if space is limited, you may be interested in the Fire TV 2 Series, which despite being newer, is more economically priced.
As always, the final decision depends on your personal preferences, so think about what you’re looking for and you’ll find it easier to make a decision.
