Roomba s9+: the features where it beats its rival

We start by talking about the strengths in which Roomba s9+ stands out over the Roborock model:

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra Vs Roomba s9+

1. Optimal edge cleaning performance

The Roomba s9+ is a perfected robot, something you can see in the small details that make all the difference.

The PerfectEdge technology with which this robot is designed and the advanced set of sensors it integrates allows it to optimise the cleaning result on edges and corners compared to other models, including Roborock.

In addition, one side of the hoover has a square shape, specially designed to clean edges and corners more effectively.

2. Identifying large concentrations of dirt

Another advantage of the Roomba s9+ is the incorporation of DirtDetect sensors, which detect the areas with the most accumulated dirt so that the robot intensifies cleaning in these areas. The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, on the other hand, does not have these sensors, although it does have others such as carpet and obstacle detection, which the Roomba s9+ also has.

3. Large map storage capacity

It’s no secret that both robots have superior usability intelligence, so both are capable of creating interactive and customisable maps. In the case of the Roborock, the maps are also three-dimensional, thanks to the robot’s 3D scanning.

However, the Roomba has an important advantage over its rival, and that is that it stores up to 10 different maps, compared to the 4 that the Roborock can store. So if you have a multi-storey house or want to store different locations, such as your home and office, the Roomba offers more storage capacity than the Roborock.

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra: these are its main advantages

As mentioned above, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is not yet available for sale on Amazon, but will be soon. The Roborock is, for most users, the more unknown of the two models in this review. Therefore, let’s start by analysing the qualities in which it beats its rival.

1. Combined navigation type

The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra moves thanks to LiDAR laser technology combined with a 3D camera and an RGB camera. As you can see, a complete mechanism that gives it very accurate precision in mapping the space, orienting itself to design the most optimised cleaning route, and detecting obstacles even in low light.

In contrast, the Roomba s9+ integrates iAdapt 3.0, a navigation system based primarily on cameras and VSLAM technology. This technology allows it to create real-time maps by tracking successive frames of up to 230,400 data points per second.

As you can see, both robots perform really smart navigation, although Roborock is more accurate and more effective in dark areas.

2. Reactive AI 2.0 technology

Another feature of the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is its advanced object identification mechanism, Reactive AI 2.0. This is an AI-based technology that allows it to recognise a wider range of objects, such as pets, textiles, shoes, pedestals, scales, cables and dustpans. Using machine learning, the robot identifies each obstacle and reacts differently to each type of object.

3. Three emptying stations in one

We begin by highlighting what is undoubtedly one of the key aspects for which Roborock is revolutionising the market. We start from the premise that both robots have a self-emptying base, but with major differences.

The Roomba s9+ has a base that allows you to extend the robot’s autonomy up to 30 days or so, at which point the robot empties itself automatically.

However, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra has a triple base, where, in addition to the waste tank, it has a mop wash tank and an automatic water refill tank to continue mopping. In addition, the capacity of the base gives it a battery life of approximately 7 weeks, up from the 4 weeks of the Roomba s9+.

4. Built-in sonic scrubbing

If you have bought a Roomba before, you will know that its robots do not include a mopping function, but are compatible with the Braava series of floor cleaners, also from iRobot. In other words, to be able to vacuum and mop you need two separate devices that are synchronised.

This is not the case with its rival. The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is capable of vacuuming and mopping simultaneously on the same appliance, which is a significant time and money saver. In addition, it uses sonic scrubbing based on VibraRise, a high-speed vibration system that makes the robot reach a speed of up to 3,000 vibrations per minute.

5. High suction power

To be honest, we find it difficult to compare the two models in this respect because Roomba is not the clearest brand when it comes to suction power information.

As they themselves state, the Roomba s9+ offers 40 times more suction power than the Roomba 600 series. By doing the maths, we can deduce that the robot achieves a suction power of approximately 2500 Pascals.

In any case, it remains far from the 5100 Pascals achieved by the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, thanks to the improved HyperForce system that the Chinese company has implemented.

6. Battery life

The last quality we are talking about is the autonomy, both in terms of emptying frequency and battery life.

Both robots have a self-emptying base that gives them a total autonomy of 4 weeks in the case of Roomba and 7 weeks in the case of Roborock. And, as you’ll see below, both have a charge and return option.

However, there are differences when it comes to the robot’s own battery life, regardless of this functionality. The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra holds up to 180 minutes of battery life, compared to 120 minutes for the Roomba s9+.

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra vs Roomba s9+: How are they similar?

We’ve already told you about the strengths of each robot, and now it’s time to check if there are any common elements where there are no differences. The answer is that there are several:

1. Synchronisation with virtual assistants and mobile app

The programming of the robot, the intelligent room management or the checking of its status can be done, in both cases, via the corresponding mobile app. In addition, both Roborock and Roomba can be synchronised with leading virtual assistants such as Alexa or Google Assistant. However, you will need to make sure that your language is available.

2. Recharge and resume option

The independence offered by the robots is one of the reasons behind the purchase decision. And one of the functionalities that guarantees this autonomy is the “Recharge and return” option.

Thanks to this, the robot will go to the charge base by itself once it has finished cleaning or if it detects that it is running low on battery power. In the latter case, it will recharge a sufficient percentage of the battery to finish cleaning, and then resume from where it stopped. Well, either robot has this functionality.

3. Increased power on carpets

The set of sensors with which they are equipped is really complete, and both robots have a sensor capable of identifying carpets and rugs, and adjusting the suction power to the maximum level. In the case of the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, it also has a floating system that raises the mop on carpets to combine mopping and vacuuming in the same action.

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra Vs Roomba s9+

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra vs Roomba s9+: our conclusion

There’s no doubt in our minds that these are the two most advanced robots on the market today. And, although the Roborock is not yet on sale, we can sense that its price will be quite high. We even dare to say that there will not be a significant difference with respect to Roomba, which is a company whose prices are quite high.

However, price aside, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is a more advanced and complete robot. It outperforms its rival in most key functionalities, such as suction power, self-emptying base, navigation technology and versatility of use.

The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is designed to vacuum and mop at the same time; whereas if you want to mop with the Roomba you’ll need to sync it with the Braava floor mopper.

Roborock’s model, on the other hand, features a beefed-up navigation system, combining the benefits of the laser with the 3D camera. This, in turn, allows it to create three-dimensional maps that you can consult via the app. In this sense, and to be fair, both robots offer the possibility of managing rooms separately, scheduling cleaning, etc. The Roomba s9+ even stores up to 10 maps, far more than the 4 stored by the Roborock.

It is also worth noting that the Roomba s9+ is perfect for cleaning effectively in more difficult areas, such as dark corners, edges and narrow areas, thanks to its more extensive sensor equipment.

As you can see, from a functional and sophistication point of view, our recommendation would be to opt for the precision and technological innovation of the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra. However, you should think about what your needs and limitations are in order to choose the one that best suits them. The decision will be the right one.
