OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) has incredible colour reproduction, yet the most impressive thing about their TVs is their high black performance. So is OLED Evo a necessary upgrade or is OLED more than enough? Which TV to choose, OLED or OLED Evo?

OLED technology Vs LED technology
LED TVs generate an image and illuminate a series of small LED lights to make the picture more vibrant and brighter. OLED, however, excels in producing the picture by illuminating individual pixels, rather than the entire screen.
Black performance in OLED refers to how well the colour black can be displayed, and certainly in this technology it’s a blast. This is how in LED technology black will appear as a sort of grey, whereas in OLED black appears black.
In traditional LED TVs, manufacturers look for different ways to reproduce black, but 100% black can never be achieved because the technology is backlit. However, their TVs offer good picture quality and are much cheaper.
In a test conducted, the results verified that 100% of the colours in LG OLED displays virtually matched the original colours while only 70-80% of colours in LED displays did the same.
Differences of OLED Evo with OLED

The new panel has been redesigned with a larger layer made of a stronger emitting material to refine the wavelengths of light. How does OLED Evo differ from conventional OLED?
Increased colour brilliance
OLED Evo increases the brightness of your TV. LG claims that an OLED Evo panel will be 20% brighter in an all-white picture compared to the average OLED panel.
Therefore, it is a technology that works best in brightly lit environments. If you have a brightly lit room and want to watch TV, OLED Evo panels are the best choice.
More vibrant and colourful image
OLED takes ideas from other technologies such as Nanocell and QNED to achieve a more vibrant and colourful image than QLED. To do this, a new layer of green and red is inserted to achieve a more vibrant colour.
This increases the colour rendering. In addition, they claim that green is the most easily seen by the human eye. By offering better colours in the red and green wavelengths, a better picture experience is achieved.
Similarities
Thin and light TVs
One of the main advantages of these panels is that they are lighter than LCDs. In addition, they can be fabricated on plastic substrates, which means that even roll-up panels with these technologies may soon be seen. Their panels are also thinner.
Higher image quality
OLED and OLED Evo panels have a much higher picture quality thanks to their illumination and their own pixels. Black is not simulated, but the corresponding pixels are turned off to achieve it, which provides very black black blacks. Their viewing angles are very good.

Good response time
Both panels provide a good level of response and refresh rate. Therefore, they make good gaming TVs.
Lower consumption
Their TVs have lower power consumption because, when displaying black, the pixels are switched off resulting in lower power consumption and they do not require additional backlighting.
Which OLED Evo TVs can I find?
OLED Evo is a technology that is currently only available in LG’s new G1 Gallery TV model. The new G1 Gallery TV combines a slim design with its high performance, and of course comes with OLED Evo, the evolution of OLED technology.
LG G1 Series
The G1 series launched in 2021 brings you greater brightness, detail, clarity and realism. It comes in 55, 65, 77 and 83 inches with 4K resolution.
LG G1 is an ultra-thin and slim 4K Ultra HD TV with LED Evo display that features an α9 Gen 4 AI Processor 4K for high picture quality in movies, games and sports.
Its main feature is its OLED Evo panel which provides more colour and brightness thanks to its self-luminous pixels for a more realistic image.
Its scene analysis allows it to recognise the genre of the content produced to automatically switch picture modes. Its sound is immersive Dolby Atmos, with 40W of powerful sound. It has an exclusive gaming menu and much more.
This is the first series of TVs with OLED Evo technology, although it is expected that new ones will soon be launched with different features and prices to suit the needs of all users.
OLED Vs OLED Evo: Which one do you recommend?
OLED Evo comes to optimise OLED technology by inserting new colour layers to show more vivid colours. However, it is currently only available in a few TVs, and only LG makes it.
Despite its limitations, OLED Evo provides better black and more vibrant colours, perfect even for bright environments, making it the best choice. If you want to watch TV in a very bright room with natural light, it’s what you’re looking for. Just be aware that the price is quite a bit higher.
However, with fewer OLED Evo offers, you may be interested in OLED TVs. Of course, they have great features, plenty of options to choose from and a better price.
OLED wins in terms of price, OLED Evo wins in terms of technology. The reason is that OLED Evo TVs have come to improve the performance of OLED panels. The decision is up to you.
